After the first round of the Champions League quarter final between Wolfsburg and Real Madrid. one player who caught the eye of all is no one else but Wolfsburg's Maximilian Arnold who ran Real Madrid's defence down and also scored the decisive second goal in a 2-0 victory for the German side.
Arnold though might be an unknown player in the Champions League but he is famous face in the Bundesliga as his six goals last season helped the German Club to finish second in the league and also win the DFB-Pokal.
Having made his debut in 2011-2012 season as Wolfsburg's youngest debutant under Felix Magath, things got worse for him as Stuttgart came from behind to win 3:2 minutes shortly after he was brought on in the last game of the 2011-2012 season. This derailed his progress as he was subsequently benched in the next season until in the 2013-2014 season that he was played by new coach Dieter Hecking towards the end of the season with Wolfsburg languishing around the bottom of the league , Arnold responded in fashion scoring four goals in five games which changed the season for Wolfsburg and started the rise of the Volkswagen team .
His greatest strengths are his ability to play perfectly behind the striker, accurate long range shots, endurance, pace and strings of fine dribbles when it is needed. His only limitations are that he struggles when not afforded space and can be overly physical when under pressure, poor crossing and also poor tackling .
This season , he has scored two goals and created two assists in 25 appearances in Bundesliga. At 21 with over 85 Bundesliga games with Wolfsburg, the German surely looks like one destined for the very top. He has also won the German DFB-Pokal last season and the DFL Supercup in 2015 against Bayern Munich.
While he might have struggled for goals , it is clear that Max Arnold is surely one of the very few exciting players of his generation and is on track to fulfil his potential in Wolfsburg.
