Gen. Tukur Buratai is presently well known for his corrupt ownership of assets worth over $1.5 million in the United Arab Emirates rather than his achievements as the Chief Of Army Staff (COAS). Though he has recently been cleared by the same Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) which has consistently disgraced and humiliated the Senate President Senator Bukola Saraki for a similar
crime, it only makes it clear that the CCB is not consistent in their judgement as it seems Saraki is persecuted for some political reasons that Nigerians already know.
For a country whose 70% live below the poverty line (earn less than $2 daily), it is baffling how a public officer like Buratai is able to afford $1.5 million worth of assets. What really makes the case more interesting is the fact that the COAS has decided to play on the intelligence of the nation at large by claiming to have painstakingly saved the money for the assets. Judging by the current foreign exchange this represents over N5 billion, so the question is how was the COAS able to save such amount in his active years in service? How is that mathematically possible and how much does the COAS earn as salary and allowances? The COAS must be a genius and a money doubler. This is a simple arithematic that a primary six student will quickly dismiss immediately and conclude impossible considering the foolish excuse given by the CCB and the COAS. Why has the EFCC suddenly kept mute when the society need them most and where is our anti-corruption crusader president when corruption is looking straight up at him. This is the same man who was the procurement officer at the time Col. Sambo Dasuki was in charge as the National Security Adviser and during the time of both Gen. Anthony Ihejirika and Gen. Kenneth Minimah who were all indicted of corrupt acts during their time as COAS. How then is the case of Buratai different?
Upon hearing the story of genius savers like Buratai, one is tempted to applaud foremer UK Prime Minister David Cameron who once said Nigeria is fantastically corrupt. The case of Buratai makes Sambo Dasuki a saint as Dasuki seems to be reprimanded in prison. Based on Buratai's savings statement, it is wise to infamously declare the COAS a man whose investment capabilities are impeccable and out of this world.
