Has Senator Dino Melaye Demystified Bola Ahmed Tinubu With His Threats?
By Ewah Chika.
Alhaji Bola Tinubu is easily not only seen and described as the undisputed Godfather of the APC but also the head of the "Change Revolution" which swept off the PDP and the last administration from power. Such is Tinubu's influence that it was once said that he single handedly installed John Oyegun as the party's chairman and also picked his former Attorrney General in Lagos State, Prof Yemi Osibanjo as President Muhammadu Buhari's running mate before the general elections.
Tinubu was also credited as the man who plotted the victory of the APC while the likes of Rotimir Ameachi and Raji Fashola provided the funds from their states (Rivers and Lagos States). All these respect and appreciation for "Jagaban " appears to to have suddenly changed as the former governor seems sidelined in the running of the country's affairs judging from recent events. This started with the appointment of his former political son but now public enemy Raji Fashola as the minister of Works, Power and Housing to the nomination and election of his arch-enemy Senator Bukola Saraki against his wish and then recently the scolding and threatening of his wife by no one else but the very controversial Senator Dino Melaye.
Bola Tinubu seems to have been demystified as Melaye has even gone to say he cannot do anything to him as he is not God. Those the action and words of Melaye should be highly condemned by all, it shows a deep truth that the Tinubu before the election is no longer the same Tinubu of present as he seems to have lost a lot of grip in the past 14 months . This appears true when one considers how he did in his power to make sure Saraki never occupies his present position which was not successful at the end of the day. This is a departure from the manner and way the former governor was treated by not only APC members but also public servants at large immediately after the election and victory of APC. Tinubu might be a willy politician who has paid his dues but his greatest problem seems to be the underestimation of a younger Saraki who has been a thorn in his flesh in the present administration. One would have expected the appointment of his (Tinubu) loyal servants in key ministries and federal government parastatals as the ministers of finance, petroleum , internal affairs, health were not appointed based on his recommendation neither are the Managing Directors of NIMASA, NNPC, NCC, DSS, EFCC and now NPA who are mostly controlled by those of Northern origin. It appears that the governor of Kaduna state is now the the reigning de-factor leader of the APC judging from the recent appointment of a certain young Ms. Hadiza Bala Usman who before her appointment was Nasir El-Rufai's Chief of Staff and co-founder of the #BringBackOurGirls campaign .
At present , Tinubu has now been relegated to a senior spokesman who attacks and criticses those he feels are not in alignment with him like the infamous attack on Dr. Kachikwu Ibe during the fuel crisis period knowing fully well that the President is the supreme head of Petroleum matters in the country.
Finally Nothing lasts forever they say but even though he (Tinubu) will never accept it publicly in 14 months it seems that the political sagacity of the once APC Godfather has been tested and now appears fading. Dino Melaye's outburst on his wife in the Senate appears to have shown how no privilege and power is constant in life.
