Eyebrows were raised when Borussia Dortmund spent €16 million on Turkish starlet Emre Mor in May. Borussia Dortmund have been active in this transfer window signing the likes of Marc Bartra (Barcelona), Sebastian Rode (Bayern Munich) and Ousmane Dembele (Rennes) while these players are quality players this cannot be compared with the 18-year-old Turkish international who has a perfect left foot.
While €16 million isn't a lot of money, it is high for a player who only made his senior debut in November 2015 before going on to become a regular in January for Danish club Nordsjaelland. As Nordsjaelland jubilate after making a profit of €16 million on a player they signed for free after he was discarded by Lyngby Boldlub for being ineffective, Saint Etienne is the worst hit after the passed up the chance to sign the player deeming him not good enough in 2013 after he underwent a trial at the club.
Turkish national team coach Fatih Terim had this to say about the player after be became the third youngest player to assist a goal in Euro's (a European Tournament group stage game against the Czech Republic) , "We've been impressed by him. It was an important decision whether to play him or not. He's been like a saviour tonight . He's been valuable to us and I believe he will have a big impact on our team". This was after Mor provided a key pass to striker Burak Yilmaz to open the scoring in a 2-0 defeat of The Czech Republic. This was in stark contrast to the message from Lyngby after discarding him from their U19 side in 2015, "The conclusion is that the talent (Mor) cannot be redeemed in Lyngby Boldlub.
This was when Nordsjaelland stepped in, signing him initially for their U19 in the summer before promoting him to their senior side a few weeks after his signing. Mor was born to a Macedonian mother and Turkish father in Bronshoj (Denmark) and played in all the age levels for Denmark before opting for Turkey after Terim convinced him and the father (to choose Turkey) who was serving a short sentence for injuries caused as an uninsured driver . The player's video was watched by Terim who had this to say before convincing him to play for the country of his father even though he did not know how to speak or understand Turkish at the time, "After watching his videos, I said he is not an ordinary play , he is an extra ordinary player." Mor ended last season which was his first In the senior team with two goals in 13 league games and has made one assist in four games for Turkey. Unlike most of his mates, Mor is a perfect dribbler with the ball on his feet like it is glued . He can play in a variety of positions upfront, forward left , midfielder left or as a number 10 just behind the main striker. He has pace and has a low centre of gravity which makes him difficult to foul . Along with Marco Reus and Emerick Aubameyang, The forward line of BVD will be one of the deadliest in the German League as BVD can easily catch opponents unawares on the counter or use the trickery of the youngster to distract defenders to create space for the other forwards in the team.
However one area the player must improve on is his defensive contribution and fitness which comes naturally with age, but for now BVD have done a smart deal and signed a Ballon d'Or contender in the future judging from his records.
