When Will Harry Kane's Goal Drought End?

By Ewah Chika.

Harry Kane has been the hottest striker in the English top flight in the past two seasons after scoring 21 and 25 league goals in the 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 Premier League seasons. The former Leicester City player repaid Manuel Pochettino's faith in him by scoring 18 goals in his first 20 league goals In the 2014/2015 season after Spurs struggled to score goals,
scoring only two goals in ten league games with the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Saldado flopping when given the chance in the team.

Kane's improved form for Spurs was unexpected considering his poor return of 14 goals in 56 league games while on loan with the likes of Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich City and Leicester City from 2009-2013. One of the youngster's attributes which have made him successful include his fearless approach to the game coupled with his top notch predatory and finishing skills, heading ability , physicality, hold-up play and his versatility as he can play in any forward position .

Fast forward to this summer and it is shocking what has happened to the once feared striker after flopping at the Euro's despite starting four games for the Three Lions who were eliminated by an unknown Iceland in the second round. Things did not change in the new campaign as Kane is yet to score in three games not being able to break his bad record of having not scored in the month of August for Spurs in the league. Spurs fans are hopeful that the forward's difficult patch will not last long as the team has only garnered five points from a possible nine after three games.

On international level, Kane hasn't performed so exceptionally though having netted five goals in 17 games for the Three Lions and flopping in the weekend's World Cup qualifiers away to Slovakia, missing two clear cut chances and looking isolated in attack. This was a performance reminiscent of his Euro's display where he tried unrealistic dribbles at defenders instead of holding up waiting for support or shooting instead of giving a simple pass to a team mate.

Kane's struggles might be down to the fact that he has been over-rated with too much unrealistic expectations placed on his young shoulders or that like every other player, the striker  might be lacking some confidence which he will regain once his game improves or once he scores a couple of goals. What ever the case may be from the above, Spurs fans will not mind digging deep provided the youngster comes up with some vital goals starting from this weekend.
