FIFA Rejects Bojan Krkic's Serbia International Switch Request.
By Ewah Chika.
Stoke City's Bojan Krkic has seen his application to quit Spain and continue his international football career with Serbia ultimately turned down by FIFA according to the Mirror.
The former Roma attacker has a Serbia father but grew up in Catalonia before going on to break into Barcelona's first team in 2007 under Frank Rjikaard at 17 years 19 days breaking Lionel Messi's record at the time. The attacker was highly rated at the time with fans predicting he was going to be Lionel Messi's longterm attacking partner.
Under Pep Guardiola, Bojan failed to fulfil his potential as he found himself behind the likes of Lionel Messi, Samuel Eto'o and then Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the number 9 role. It was the same thing on the wings as the attacker found it difficult to dislodge the likes of Pedro, Alexis Sanchez, Isaac Cuenca and Christian Tello which led to his sale to Roma and subsequent loans to both AC Milan and Ajax before his £1.08 million sale to Stoke in 2014. It was not until joining Stoke that Bojan showed why he was highly rated at the time in Barcelona before sustaining an unfortunate injury in February 2015 which ruled him out of the season at that point. Last season, Bojan was a shadow of himself as he failed to shine which has continued this season as Stoke City find themselves as the bottom of the league table with two points from five games after the signings of Joe Allen, Bruno Martins Indi and Wilfred Bony in the summer.
On the international front, Bojan has played only one game for Spain after coming on as a substitute and playing for 25 minutes in a 4-0 win over Armenia in 2008. At 26, Bojan will have to up his game in order to get a Spanish call up as the likes of Nolito, David Silva , Diego Costa and Alvaro Morata are miles ahead of him in the pecking order.
Choosing Spain over Serbia hasn't all been bad news for the attacker considering he won the European U17 and U21 championships with Spain which might be a consolation for him for now.
At 26, the Catalonia born player still has time ahead of him to play for Spain if he improves although he has to lift his club from relegation places before thinking of playing for the Iberian nation.
