Last season as Chelsea continued to struggle in the Premier League, Eden Hazard struggled with a persistent hip injury becoming shadow of himself and a clog on the wheels of the team even after the change of manager.
This season it appears the Belgian is on his way to reclaiming the PFA Player of the Year he won in 2014/2015 after impressing as Chelsea won the double (Premier League and League Cup).
This season, Chelsea are flying high after winning their three Premier League games, scoring seven goals and conceding two in the process against the likes of West Ham, Watford and Burnley. Although the likes of N'Golo Kante, Diego Costa and John Terry, it is Hazard who has been the most effective and the live-wire of the team in attack. The Belgian has dominated the game from the left flank scoring two goals and assisting one in three games.
The player's improved form started towards the end of last season after scoring twice against Tottenham and Liverpool. Hazard continued this new form at the Euro's as he led the Red Devils to the quarter-final before their 3-1 defeat to Wales. It appears that Conte's new approach might have played a part in the star man's form as he has been given the attacking freedom he enjoys under the Italian, without being shackled with defensive responsibilities as N'Golo Kante has had to sit back and sort out the team defensively. Also the high-energy pressing style of Chelsea this season (total suffocation of Burnley and West Ham) is a deviation from the style of Jose Mourinho who relied more on soaking up pressure and counter-attacking opponents including those of less quality.
It is only fair that the Belgian was crowned the Premier League Player of the Month of August after his blistering form of late. The Belgian completed 17 take-ons, suffering ten fouls with a shot accuracy of 58 percent with the trio ranked 1st in the league.
Additionally the former Lille player had 14 shots on goal which is ranked 3rd in the league, playing six key passes and completing 152 of his passes which were ranked 9th and 14th respectively in the league. With such stat, it is crystal clear, no one else but him deserves the award although he will have to keep up or better the performance to remain in contention for the PFA Player of the Year come the end of the season.
Maintaining such stat won't be a hard deal considering Chelsea's signing of attacking left-back Marcus Alonso who is a natural left footer unlike Cesar Azpilicueta who always cuts In to cross or pass with his favourite right foot, isolating the Belgian in the process. With Alonso the duo can easily double up on opposition right-backs terrorising them and pinning them back during the course of the game.
It is still a long call predicting or tipping any player to win any award this season but it is clear that Eden Hazard is Chelsea's star man and must be kept happy and effective in order to continue to win games for the club.
