John Terry it must be admitted might not have been rock solid the way he has been known over the years, but there is no denying he still has a lot to offer to the one club he has been all his life. At 35 years , it is glaring he may be approaching retirement and lost some pace but his game hasn't really been all about pace from his formative years at the club . Terry is best known for his perfect positioning technique and leadership qualities . He is certainly a player who gives much more than 100% for a cause he believes in and can walk through the wall for any manager, as he did under both Carlo Ancelotti and Jose Mourinho . His stats this season hasn't been that bad as people exaggerate .
This season, Terry has played 17 league games and four Champions League matches, with a 64% success rate in one on one physical duels , with 13 tackles which had a 59% success rate and 26 interceptions , 66 clearances, 15 blocks, one goal and one chance created. Terry also represents a link between the old guard and new guard in the Chelsea team.
Terry is not a saint either as throughout his career he has been involved in so many controversies (Anton Ferdinand's Racism row and Wayne Bridge Girlfriends/Baby Mama's flirting scandal), yet he has come back stronger on each occasion. In a squad full of talent yet disappointing, it is easy to see that only four players have stayed more than four years in the club (Branislav Ivanovic, Gary Cahill, John Obi Mikel and John Terry) . With the likes of Kourt Zouma and Cahill equally disappointing, it will be unwise not to offer Terry a new deal. Chelsea really need a world class defender who can learn from no one else but the Captain and take time to acclimatise to the new environment . Terry surely deserves one more year contract extension this summer to help consolidate on the few positives of this season . Terry is surely Chelsea and Chelsea Terry.
