It
was like a day of mourning on June 6, 2015 in West London following Arsenal's
official signing of Chelsea's mystique iconic goalkeeper Petr Cech. It was
something no Chelsea fan ever imagined could happen. It even got to a point,
Cech was harassed by hate twitter messages after he left. Granted, Chelsea have a world renowned goalkeeper in Thabaut Courtois who at 23 could only get better but to the fans Petr Cech is still one of the Best. The million dollar question was , What if Courtois got injured? Playing in four competitions is a no small feat and could take it's toil on Courtois. Cech it seemed had hit the final nail on Chelsea's league aspirations even before it began by joining Arsenal.

Fast
forward three weeks and Chelsea fans are singing another hymn as it became
official summer target Ashmir Begovic was signed from Stoke City to replace
Cech. Begovic may not have been as successful as Cech taking into consideration
that he has never won any major trophy in his career while Cech won more than
11 major trophies in Chelsea. The truth is that in Begovic , Chelsea have found
a more than able replacement.
A
look at Begovic's statistics for the 2014/2015 season shows he conceded an
average goal of 1.23 in 35 league matches for an average team like Stoke. It
also shows he had an average save per game of 2.77 and seven clean sheets. He
also had an impressive average saves per goal of 1.44 and an incredible 100%
average claim success. At 28, Begovic is at his prime and still have many more
years in him. It doesn't end there as he also has the 2015 Guinness World
Record for the longest goal scored in football (A 13 seconds 97.5 yards goal
against Arthur Boruc of Southampton on November 2, 2013). Begovic also holds an
impressive record of 50 matches clean sheet in 160 matches for Stoke City
(2010-2015).
It
is also of little surprise that Bosnia and Herzegovina is enjoying their best
footballing period at a time Begovic is their undisputed No1, qualifying for
the first time for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Begovic has also won the
2012 Bosnian Footballer of the Year awarded by the Bosnian Sports Writers' Jury
ahead of highly established and celebrated stars like Manchester City's Edin
Dzeko and Miralem Pjanic. It is clear that Begovic will not only replace
Cech but will push for first team action and may upsurge Courtois if he doesn't
deliver.
As
some people wonder why Begovic may give up his No1 goalkeeping status in Stoke
City and end up on the bench for Chelsea, it is clear that Chelsea will deliver
some medals for him and that is the dream and motivation of every player or
athlete. Chelsea will be competing in four competitions and Begovic will surely
get some game time although not as much as in Stoke City.
An
£8 million deal, is a Win-Win for all parties involved (Chelsea, Stoke
City and Begovic ) . To they fans he will surely banish the ghosts of Cech's
exit to Arsenal. In Begovic, Chelsea have struck "Gold".
