Christian Pulisic: Borussia Dortmund And American Best Young Prospect.

By Ewah Chika.

Christian Pulistic might have being an unknown  player when he made the move to Borussia Dortmund from US club side PA Classics in the winter of 2014, yet it took the player only 15 games with the BVD academy to gain promotion to the first team under Jurgen Klopp. While with the BVD academy, Pulisic was so impressive scoring 10 goals and creating eight assists in four months. Since then, the American has broken eight records in all competitions (UEFA Champions League, German Bundesliga and the United States National team-USMNT).

The midfielder has been so dazzling that he has already being compared with world beaters like Eden Hazard, Marco Reus and Phillipe Countinho which is mainly due to his his similar playing style with theirs. The Pennsylvanian born player can also play in any attacking position preferably in the No. 10 position. One of Pulisic's greatest attributes are his pace, low centre of gravity (which allows him to glide and dribble past his markers easily) and his positioning.
Although he has seen game time lately, the American faces an uphill task in dislodging first team players Mario Gotze, Raphael Guerrero, Sebastian Rode and Shinji Kagawa who all have a slight advantage over him judging from their experience. This is mainly due to the fact that coach Thomas Tuchel sets up his team to play in a 4-1-4-1 formation with the Julien Weigl operating as the lone defensive midfielder and the aforementioned midfielders vying for central midfield roles.

Presently, the midfielder has earned more than eight caps with the USMNT, most of them coming before his 18th  birthday making him the nations best prospect since Landon Donovan in 1999.
To buttress further, the American is the youngest player to appear in the 2015/2016 Bundesliga season, youngest American to play in a UEFA Competition (Europa League game against Porto in February), youngest  American to play for the US in a World Cup qualifier, youngest non-German and fourth youngest player to score in the Bundesliga, youngest player to represent Dortmund in the Champions League and the youngster player to score a brace in the Bundesliga. As if these aren't enough, the attacking midfielder scored a goal and created two assists in BVD's 6-0 demolition of Darmstadt this season winning the Bundesliga Player of the Week award in the process. Not one to be outdone, the attacker followed up his Bundesliga heroics in the first game of the Champions League assisting Aubameyang for the sixth goal as BVD beat Legia Warsaw 6-0 in Poland.

For those who know him, it isn't surprising to see the player perform at the top level given his form since making the move to Germany which probably prompted his former coach and present Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp to offer BVD £11 million for his services In the summer which they rejected.

At 18, Pulisic still has a long way to go but judging by his form, it is clear the sky is his limit as his maturity and composure on and off the field is miles ahead of his peers. For now , Borussia Dortmund clearly have a rough diamond in their hands and must do everything to protect him.
