Governor Ayodele Peter Fayose is known as the de-factor Leader and mouthpiece of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). If there is anything Fayose knows how to do best , it is his constant criticism of the central government
of President Muhammadu Buhari. While his party has still not recovered from the humiliating loss in last years election , Ayo Fayose has been been a vocal leader and bedrock of the party in recent years.
Fayose credits himself with so many things which makes him look larger than life in the eyes of Ekiti State indigenes . This is the reason why Ekiti State indigenes and Nigerians were shocked when the same governor that constantly blames the opposition for financial recklessness and insensitivity to the plight of the people, made history as the only Governor to have paid workers their two months salary arrears (November and December) and withdrew the same salary after 24 hours then not satisfied, turning back to blame financial institutions for the magic.
It is disheartening to learn that teachers and workers in Ekiti State are yet to receive their November and December salaries respectively when the festive period ended more than six weeks ago. Fayose instead of taking responsibility continues to blame the government of his predecessor, Dr Kayode Fayemi for the untold hardship the state is witnessing more than two years after the exit of Fayemi. This is the same man who berates the central government for blaming the part actions of the PDP, who turns round to continue to play the blame game .
It is only in Nigeria that workers entitlements would be withdrawn and denied with little or no remorse. The workers have worked and deserve their salary which is their fundamental right and entitlement.
With this action , Fayose has lost all credibility that he ever earned. A few days back, his former associate and close confidant Dr. Aluko who was a former Secretary of the PDP in Ekiti State was live on air throwing more light on how the then central government (Dr. Goodluck Jonathan) with the aid of the Nigerian Army rigged the 2014 elections in the state in favour of the same Fayose. It seems the heat on Fayose is getting more intense and the spotlight on his misdemeanours.
Fayose must apologise and seek the forgiveness of his people and take responsibility, before going ahead to rectify his mistakes . Anything other than this is tantamount to unrest and strike actions which may engulf the state soon. Nigerian leaders have to show some respect to their citizens as "To whom much is given , much is expected ".
