"Stuffed by Barcelona's Galactico's . Stuffed by United's kids. Great week, Wenger. Who can you beat exactly ", were the words of former Arsenal player Piers Morgan. Nine years without a league win at Old Trafford was the stat that most
Arsenal fans did not like to hear before game against Manchester United on Sunday. For the first time in many years Arsenal were the favourites for the
game as Manchester United fielded youngsters Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Guillermo Varela all in the starting line up with Michael Carrick playing in an unfamiliar central defensive position . There was no Wayne Rooney,
Anthony Martial or Chris Smalling to help guide the youthful side . If Arsenal hadn't beaten United in the past this was the day it would happen .
The story changed before half an hour as Marcus Rashford opened the scoring for an impressive United side. From there it was total collapse from North London team as they failed to match the perfect play and tenacity shown by their opponents.
Theo Walcott was the most guilty of all as he touched the ball only four times in his 63 mins on the pitch (four touches in the game for his £150,000 per week wages: meaning £37,000 per touch). It was the same Walcott who was caught out of possession for the second goal of Rashford and he surely had a game to forget .
At the end of the final whistle , Arsenal had fallen to a second string Manchester United team by 3-2. This was Wenger's 6th defeat of the season and his 4th away from home. The last time injury denied the fans of a full team between the two teams was in 2011 as Arsenal struggled with Injury and ended up fielding youngsters also been beaten 8-2 by Alex Ferguson's Manchester United. Today it was the turn of Arsenal to take revenge on United but once again the reverse was FC's case.
Wenger had the best chance to win the EPL this season as the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool have all fallen away for the first time in the Barclays English Premiership Era. Wenger needed a world class striker (type who wins you games of this nature) and a top notch defender before the season started but his stubbornness did not allow him see beyond the present, yet his team continues to struggle when it matters most . Wenger has now spent 20 years in Arsenal with three EPL trophies and six FA Cups to show for it, which does not really speak well of a world class manager.
The truth is that Arsenal were beaten by United's youngsters with no Wikipedia page. By January 1st 2016, Arsenal were 1st in the league on 39 points but fast forward to 28 February , they are 3rd with 51 points , 5 points behind Leaders Leicester.
The lesson is that when a coach has made people disenchanted with him and betrayed their trust, it becomes hard to felicitate with him. Arsenal have shown that it's not just on the field that the lack leaders. They also lack leaders in the board room as nobody has the power , personally of willingness to call a Wenger to order.
