Last week it was alleged that Akpabio was involved in a ghastly motor accident in an Abuja Road and his car severally damaged. That the Senator cheated death is still a puzzle and as if that wasn't enough, he was quickly flown out of the country in a private jet to a London Hospital where he received treatment to injuries sustained in the accident.
The problem with the case of Akpabio is that , just few months ago he commissioned a "Self Claimed" World Class Hospital built with tax payers money running into billions and publicly compared it with what is obtainable abroad. This was typical of Akpabio , who loves courting attention, little did he know that 'Karma' would soon catch up with him as it has done. The question on everyone's lips is, why did he had to travel abroad when he just commissioned a hospital and declared it one of the best in the world ? Was it a case of 'Cheap Propaganda"? Was Akpabio trying to deceive the world and win over some critics ? How long has this deception of his lasted and how many more lies have Nigerians being told by this same man ? This is a man who records show constructed a 1 kilometre road with #1billion -#3 billion while as governor. This same man constructed Akwa Ibom State Government House Complex with #17.4 billion. Also in 2011, the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly approved a whooping #94 billion as supplementary estimate for road construction and the payment of 2 months in 2011. This all shows a man who is full of deceit and can't be trusted with his words. Why did Akpabio then rush to visit the UK in a jet if he went to visit a sick friend and why did it take an accident before he could visit such a sick friend ? These are all questions without answers and may take eternity to be answered.
On Sunday 06 September 2015, his media aide publicly disclosed that his boss was in London to see a sick friend and not for medical care. He also disclosed that the medical hospital commissioned was yet to be functional . If so then, Why did it take Akpabio and his team all these months and then the accident to come out publicly and tell the world that he commissioned " A Hospital that is yet to function months after it was commissioned". How many more of such scam projects was commissioned by Akpabio or we have to wait for another event to realise that?
This is a big example of how our leaders treat us with laxity and his case is worse because he was flown immediately in a private jet (too rich to afford one) to London. While just few weeks ago he had all the funds, time and human resources for 8 years to build a better hospital in his home state. It is more and more glaring that our leaders lack the patriotism and competence to take us to the promised land.
