Is Jose Mourinho Still The Special One?
"If you ask me about the title, I would say impossible mission. Maybe Tom Cruise could do it", were the words of no one but Jose Mourinho after the 1-0 win over Norwich in Stamford Bridge last week. It hasn't been the best of times for the West London
club as they have been embroiled in relegation battle for the first time since the EPL era. Chelsea were the run away winers last season also claiming the league cup with more than four senior players in the EPL team of the season. This season it has been a gradual decline having lost seven matches, drawn two and won only 3 prior to last week's win. Also Chelsea have a negative goal difference of -6 and have withnessed the total collapse of star player Eden Hazard. Jose Mourinho himself knows too well that he is lucky to still be on the job till date. In an era where loyalty bears no significance and where the present matters much more than the past, no matter the success achieved in the past, then Jose Mourinho must thank his stars for his continued stay as a Chelsea manager. It is on record that no manager sacked by owner Roman Abramovich had ever gone past 6th in the league as the likes of Philipe Scolari, Andre Villas Boas did not go this far. Playing the victim and creating a "We against the World" mental siege has not also helped Mourinho, rather this has back fired with a stadium ban and having more than a£90,000 fine saction by the FA on him aleady this season alone. This is not exclude the public spat Mourinho had with former team doctor Eva Carnerio after the Swansea game which generated lots of negative report against both him and the club. For the first time the Chelsea team played like a team and collectively hassled and harried the opposition. The likes of Eden Hazard, Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas returned to their former best and turned the corner. The million dollar question is if this new form is sustainable but what we know is that Roman Abramovich has shown that continuity is the base of success and stability. Jose Mourinho has won the league title in every country he has coached (Portugal, Italy, England and Spain) and could be classified as one of the most successful coaches in club football history. It remains to be seen how this season will play out but the question on every fans lips is "Are Chelsea right to allow Mourinho to continue as their Manager". "Form they say is temporary but class permanent" and while the League trophy is very distant from the team from West London, a top four finish will prove the doubters of Jose Mourinho wrong. With 12 points separating Chelsea and the team on 4th (Arsenal) and also with 25 games more to go, every game is a final for Chelsea and Jose Mourinho.
