Reasons Sunderland Must fix Younes Kaboul

Younes kaboul proved on Saturday that Tottenham were right to let him leave for Sunderland this summer. It was a suprise that Kaboul was named in the starting line up against Leicester City on the opening day of the EPL by coach Dick Advocaat of Sunderland.
This is coming after, it was clear Kaboul lacked match fitness all evening. Kaboul played his last EPL match a long nine months ago in November 2014. He lacks the mobility required for an EPL centre back, and this comes as a surprise given he is just 29 years of age.   Kaboul was made the Spurs Captain on 15 September  2014, by then new coach Mauricio Porchetino. Within three months, he found himself out of the first team and relegated to the bench. Kaboul had been a regular under previous managers Harry Rednapp, Andre Villas Boas and Tim Sherwood playing either as a central defender or right back after he rejoined Spurs from Portsmouth. It was shocking that new signings Eric Deir and Federico Fazio from respectively were picked ahead to partner Jan Vertonghen in defence last season.

Dick Advocaat should also share the blame for Kaboul's disastrous outing, because he was paired with an average Sebastian Coates is yet to show his true potential that made Liverpool sign him from Nacional (Uruguay).  Credit must be given to the forward line of Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and Okazadi, for its constant pressure and creative in the 18 yard box of Sunderland.  In the lead up to the last goal by Marc Albringhton, Kaboul was at fault for not clearing fully, instead passing the ball straight to Schlupp and the not controlling in front of his goalkeeper, thereby  allowing Marc Albrington to poke in the fourth goal. The main problem is that even in his younger years Kaboul has never been a fast player and his recovery rate has always been slow. Kaboul mainly relies on his physical attribute to bail him out of trouble and comes on top in aerial battles. When fit he can be the best in his position but it remains to be seen how long it will take him to be fit. Coates needs an experienced defensive partner to help him develop and read the game and in Kaboul, Sunderland have a perfect mentor for Coates. The problem is that Kaboul may have gone past his best, even though he is only 29 years and that he played his last match since or a defender or that it may take long to be at his besten that he played his last match since November 2014 in Tottenham. In Lee Cattermole and Jack Rodwell, Sunderland do not have a good defensive cover in their midfield. While Cattermole was at fault for the third goal, after fouling Riyad Mahrez in the 18 yard, Rodwell has only regressed from the young talent in Everton. In attack, though the pairings of Jermain Lens, Jemaine Defoe and Fletcher isn't yet what it is expected, it is clear they would only get better with time. To avoid the relegation fight that Sunderland found themselves last season, then the form of Younnous Kaboul and Sebastian Coates must be worked on to prevent more embarrassment. That Leicester were already 3 goals up in the 25th minute shows that Sunderland's defensive problems are still far from over. Sunderland cannot continuee in the EPL next season if that isn't sorted. It is a simple issue of getting Kaboul back to his best form or buying a first class centre back, since the transfer window has more than two weeks to go. Sunderland still has 37 matches to make it right.
